Finding the right person for an executive position is never easy. It takes a well-organized and thorough approach that requires time and discipline. The more effort put into the process, the more likely you will achieve the results required.
At BioQuest, we don't rush the process—or skip steps. We work as fast as is prudent without compromising the quality of the work. In the end you will be more satisfied with the outcome.
At the outset, we develop a detailed timeline of the search process. It outlines the work that will be completed for the duration of the search and highlights key events and timing of status reports.
We start by meeting with to you to learn about your position requirements and your products or services, the dynamics of your marketplace, the competitive landscape and your corporate goals and strategies. We interview key managers and board members in your company to understand your organizational structure and corporate culture—and to determine the complementary strengths of the management team.
From the information gathered above we develop and prioritize a short list of "must have" competencies and a longer list of "preferable to have" competencies that guides the search process at every step. Once every decision-maker is in agreement we are ready to develop the search strategy.
During this phase we create a comprehensive list of companies and referral sources from which to identify potential candidates. We draw from our network of advisors, industry trade associations, third-party reports, journals, newsletters, as well as the BioQuest database. We review this list with you before we start contacting potential candidates.
After having made initial contact, we screen potential candidates for preliminary qualifications and interest level. The process continues as new prospects are added by our referral sources; successful prospects move on to the next step. After each two-week period we provide a written status report detailing our activities.
For each search, we develop a customized and structured interview guide to uncover how well candidates match up to the list of prioritized competencies detailed in the position specifications. This interview guide is then used to interview each qualified and interested candidate so that everyone can be objectively evaluated and compared. We conduct preliminary reference checks and only progress with the most qualified candidates. You receive a detailed report on each of the candidates we interviewed.
BioQuest helps arrange interviews, preparing both you and the candidates for this important phase of the search. After each interview, we help assess the interest level and concerns of both parties.
Once final round candidates are selected, we conduct in-depth reference checks and verify their degrees. We talk to the references provided by the candidates themselves, as well as individuals who we trust and who know the candidates in order to provide you with an objective perspective. Once again, we use a structured approach, referring back to the position specification to evaluate the competencies of the candidate. This information is shared with you on a confidential basis.
While the focus has been on evaluating candidates, we continually work on "selling " the opportunity. Since we have been involved every step along the way, we understand the motives--and concerns--of the candidates. We will advise you on how to structure an offer that will result in the outcome you want and assist in the negotiation process to ensure successful closure.
Immediately following the close of the search, we ask for your feedback on the search process. We will ask you what went well and what we could have done differently. We also ask that you complete a brief written survey so we are sure to capture your specific recommendations. After the successful candidate has been on the job for several months, we will check in with you and your new hire to get feedback on how good the "fit " is. It is through this process that we hope to improve our service to our clients.
